The Hunger Project
Performing Hunger from Taiwan: Images, Objects, and Actions
In 1982, the Hungarian-American artist, Agnes Denes, planted and harvested two acres of wheat on the Battery Park landfill, Manhattan, to draw attention to mismanagement, waste, world hunger, and ecological concerns. More recently, from 2014-2019, the American environmental activist, Rob Greenfield, addressed food waste and demonstrated food freedom by dumpster diving and foraging as a lifestyle. The above two examples both fall within the scope of Environmental Art, a general education course that emphasizes environmental sustainability at Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU), Taiwan.
