HUNGER
PROJECT
Babysitter
Work Concept
Our project aims to show four different kinds of hunger: spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental hunger. We will build four different figurines using natural, recyclable materials from our home/dorms. Together, the four figurines shall display the 4 dimensions of “Hunger”.
Purpose
Remind people that hunger doesn't just come from the body - there are many other kinds of hunger.
Artwork
"Hunger"
PHYSICAL
Hunger of the body. The physical need for food.
EMOTIONAL
Feeling emotionals are necessary just like food
MENTAL
Hunger in the mind. A thirst for knowledge.
SPIRITUAL
Hunger of the spirit.
The empty soul
Emotional
This is an era when looks determine everything. When an ugly person in the eyes of the world wants to get a love, it is as hard as heaven. No matter how sincere his heart and love consciousness are, he cannot love and be loved smoothly.
Here is a reference to the shape of Libra, satirizing how unfair the world actually is.
Spiritual
When survival becomes difficult and desires cannot be satisfied, people begin to blindly fabricate a supreme, omniscient and omnipotent existence. This social behavior may help people get through difficult times, or it may backfire..
Mental
Us students are always complaining about school. But many other children and teens in other parts of the world don’t have the same opportunities for education as we do. There is an inherent inequality to our education system–many people are left hungry: hungry for knowledge.
This sculpture illustrates the story of a girl surrounded by obstacles that prevent her from relieving her hunger. The girl in hijab longs to learn, but she is bound by her gender, the law, and her country. The land beneath her is a field of barren rocks, where the tree of knowledge can never grow. Around her are books full of blank pages and a TV with only static. She reaches her hand up, hoping to reach the book, but red threads tied her down.
Physical
What I want to express is the physical hunger, the thin appearance, the bones represented by the bamboo sticks, and even the godlessness of the eyes to express the hungry state of the characters, and the barrenness of the surrounding things and the hunger not be picky about his food.

SOLUTIONS
TO HUNGER?
First, is mental hunger. We can improve mental hunger by working towards the SDG goal: Quality Education and advocating for freedom of speech or information. If people are able to access information easily, their minds shall be a lot less hungry.
We can achieve spiritual satisfaction by finding faith and purpose in life. Faith is always a good way for people to seek sustenance. We know that people are great because of their dreams, full of hope because of their beliefs, and life goals give people direction. Beliefs and life goals are good solutions when encountering a low ebb.
Third, emotional hunger. We can solve it by finding the emotion we need. People have three emotions, friendship, affection and love. People enrich their lives through these three emotions. Once the emotional sustenance is lost, people will feel at a loss. So we think that as long as we can find the emotion we need, we can satisfy our emotional sustenance.
Last but not least is about physical hunger, We believe that physical hunger is the most direct but most difficult problem to solve. These problems are often presented in regions rather than individuals, and the levels involved have already gone beyond the simplest solution, "providing food" one word. The deeper problem is "poverty", and can rooted in complicated factors like politics, climate, and culture. These problems may seem to be beyond our control, but no matter how insignificant our actions may seem, together we can still make a difference. We can start by simple things, such as paying more attention to regions that suffer from food shortage, and advocating for their rights. We can also participate in charities and local NGOs.
